 Our History:
A group of men met and discussed plans for forming an Eagles Club. They met in the old Chardon Hotel, now gone and replaced by the Geauga Theater. On May 28, 1937, the instituting ceremony was held in the Park School Auditorium, when 104 members were initiated into a group known as Aerie 2261, Fraternal Order of Eagles. Many leading business men of the area were among these members. After meeting in various places, rooms were obtained over Rickards Bakery on Main Street. In 1943 we moved to quarters on the second floor of Lehman;s Drug Store (formerly Cook's) for the social rooms, keeping the hall above Rickard's for a dining room and a meeting room. We also had the use of the Odd Fellow's Hall on the third floor of the same building. These quarters were used until the completion of our present building at 317 Water St. In March of 1946, the Aerie purchased 3.9 acres from the Standard Oil Co. for $4000.00. Our building was started in 1949, during the term of Aerie President Stanley Peters and we moved into the building on March 15, 1950, at which time Albert J. Rabatin was serving as President. On July 12, 1952, The Aerie was permitted to form the Ladies Auxiliary with Dorothy Stanek being the first Madam President. A small addition was added to the front of our main building in the early 1960's and was rented to the Lawson's Milk Company, until they were bought out by Dairy Mart. Over a period of years, starting in 1969, a group of members known as the ball field committee, have operated the ball field with league play, tournaments, and little league for the local youths. In 1976, this committee erected and paid for the pavilion that is located behind our building. The committee disbanded in the spring of 2006. In the fall of 1980, we added 15 feet to the west side of our building, which is now part of our social room and a trustees room, for a cost of $85,000.00. In 1981, we purchased an additional 2.0 acres from Harold Clary, for $35,000.00, to provide a grassy area between our ball fields and our building and room for growth in the future. We were also able to purchase 2 smaller lots near the southeast corner of our property for $12,000.00. We now have almost 7 acres of land in the heart on Chardon. In 1985, an addition was added to our second floor, along with a gable roof to help eliminate problems with roof leaks. Our social room was remodeled in 2001 with new paneling, ceiling and lights at a cost of $21,000.00. In 2004, we also added a gabled roof to the front "Lawson's" store rental area. An interior remodel was also done and the unit has been rented to Avon Cleaners since October 2005. We continue to support all Eagle Charities as well as many local charities and organizations. Remember, we are "People Helping People" and charity starts at home. We are Proud and Humbled to have served our community and the Eagles for over 70 years and hope that we may continue to do so for many more.
